Jesus' Mission:“to make God known by testifying to the truth about God.”According to the Gospel of John: “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” John 1:18. Jesus’ prayer to His Father: “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” John 17:25, 26. Jesus in Pilate’s Court just prior to being crucified: “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” John 18:37. Jesus’ death on the Cross was the result of the impact He had on people’s lives. For those people who listened and believed what Jesus said about His Father, they became His understanding friends, but for those who hated Him and were offended by what He said, they became His enemies and could only cry “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” Jesus came not to just die on the Cross, or to make things right with God the Father so He would love us and forgive us. From the beginning the Father has always loved us and forgiven us, as He said: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jer. 31:3. God also said: “I the Lord do not change.” Malachi 3:6. Forgiveness has never been a problem with God, but what has been a problem is the fact that people don’t know God. They also are not good listeners, neither do they pay attention to what God is trying to say to them. According to the Apostle Paul: “From the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief of the truth.” 2 Thess. 2:13. In other words, truth about God is the most important issue pertaining to salvation and eternal life. As Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” John 14:6. Jesus Christ came “to make God known by testifying to the Truth about God.” |
